swix wax, but you can use anything for Irons, scrapers etc

Believe it or not, just leave the wax on. I have personally done it and by mid-day most of the wax has been scraped off by the snow. Early season especially doesn't matter and is still fast - a little performance but not much at all, and by mid day you are set to go.
