    Rafting the deshutes

I did a short trip (afternoon around Maupin) two weeks ago. The water was pretty cold, but it was quite warm in the sun. I am not an experienced rafter, but some of the rapids were pretty sizeable. I would think you would probably be OK if there are some experienced amateurs with you that...

The Unofficial Flame Mt Hood Meadows Ski Area Thread

Well said - I thought one of the really big differences between Tline in the winter this year and prior years was how dilligent Wes and the hand crew were. They were out there every day basically all day raking and shovelling. Takeoffs and landings that were beaten were closed and fixed. I...

Selling new prophet 100's, 179, with look bindings, $400

This is a great deal - jump on it. I have the exact same setup and it is very difficult to describe how good those skis are for big mountain ripping.

The Unofficial Flame Mt Hood Meadows Ski Area Thread

Hey Danny - you have provided excellent insight over the last season both here and on Matt's blog. Since I was a fusion pass holder and didn't ride at Meadows once last season your comments have really helped me get a feel for what has been going on.

The Unofficial Flame Mt Hood Meadows Ski Area Thread

That doesn't sound like Tom (Spangler - the new general manager). I am not sure who it might be - I am still new here and haven't seen operations during the on season. Rest assured, I will be paying attention to who is being nasty to the park kids (or nasty to anyone, for that matter) since I...

What should Meadows do with the old rope tow?

I want to open this up for suggestions - It looks like there is a good possibility we will be replacing the existing rope tow by the lodge with a conveyor lift (magic carpet thingy). This means there is a perfectly functional rope tow that will probably end up in a warehouse for the next 20...

How's hood lookin right about now?

The public park has been holding up pretty well. For the first few days of this week, only the jumps were open ( pipe and jibs closed) but the jibs appear to be open again today. The crew has done a really nice job this summer in general. Your profile doesn't say where you would be driving...

The Unofficial Flame Mt Hood Meadows Ski Area Thread

Hey NSers – Having been recently hired as the new Assistant Controller (I am the head accountant) at Mt Hood Meadows Ski Area, I have taken it upon myself to be responsive to the concerns of the Newschoolers community. This username is new, but I have been on Newschoolers for some time and am...

Is there a timberline public summer park and a mt. hood summer park or is it the same thing?

Hmmm....testy. I am new at meadows, but am local and fully aware of what everyone thought about the parks this year. No one else at meadows seems to be. Aren't you glad that finally someone in management at meadows gives a shit about park riders?

    Big Mountain Ski - Options

Backcountry outlet has 4FRNT VCT 189 (134-108-126) for $315 including shipping. http://www.backcountryoutlet.com/outlet/FTS0013/4FRNT-Skis-VCT-Alpine-Ski.html My buddy already bought a pair - if I needed a new big mountain ski (I am riding Line Prophet 100s) I would be all over this deal, too.

Steepest, deepest, must true to the heart back country Mt in the West

FTW - Nothing like 450 inches of Cascade Wet Blanket to help absorb those big hits. Skibowl has an open boundary policy that allows you to drop off the backside of Tom Dick Peak to the Mirror Lake BC for road laps.

Is there a timberline public summer park and a mt. hood summer park or is it the same thing?

There is one public park on Mt Hood in the summer and it is operated by Timberline Ski Area. It is pretty good right now and should be through the summer - Medium quad jump line, lots of jibs, long set of rollers and a hip at the bottom. The pipe has also been really nice.

    Career in skiing?

I believe I can provide some insight based on my own story: I have recently secured a job in the ski industry. Six years ago, I left my beloved PDX and moved to Arizona to get my MBA and after the two year program I got a job in Scottsdale as a highly paid management consultant. I worked...

    Line skis?

The concern with Line skis all goes back to the 05-06 Invaders - they had manufacturing issues in China (first year they outsourced - prior to that they manufactured in Canada) and those things delaminated like crazy. Line is really good with warranties, and they replaced mine with no questions...

Steepest, deepest, must true to the heart back country Mt in the West

Although the BC skiing around the San Juans (Silverton, T-Ride and Wolf Creek) is baller, it has just about the most dangerous snowpack you can find on this continent. That said, I have been to Silverton and everything you have ever heard about it is true - it is where really excellent skiers...
