Wow, this is amazing. Some thoughts about the current model:
I picked up a Grimnir this 20/21 season, hoping for "the most advanced freeride helmet on the market". What I got was what seems to be the same eps foam that you find in any helmet at a walmart. This is harsh and untrue because they have put thought in impact zones and custom shaping, but for $400 retail, it certainly doesnt feel premium.
The Violotta helmet is supposed to have a custom 3 layer mips system, a technology that should be in all their helmets, or at least these higher end ones. I'm glad to see different vents: after using it over some deep powder days, snow really likes to get in your head on the current iteration. The goggle gap is a little odd too. The brim seems to be uh, rocker/camber/rocker, instead of just camber, for lack of better terms. Though I do like the style of the current carbon shell with minimal logos. The current Grimnir's pov mounts are not well located- the front one is too far foward causing the helmet to push your goggles down thru bumps, landings, etc. The side mounts seem to be just a bit too far back, causing the helmet brim to photobomb your shot unless you have a mount that sticks way out to the side. The screw caps for the pov mounts do not stay in the helmet, I have had most of them fall out even after pushing the interior pins back out. It looks like they've gotten rid of the mounts completely, though I do wonder if that takes away the pov crash ratings? The fitment pads currently cover up the velcro for the liner, I would hope the new iteration plans ahead for the velcro/fitment pad locations.
Overall, I cannot stress enough how glad I am to see that SP is coming out with new padding over the outdated styrofoam. I have researched other options that I had wanted to retrofit into the helmet like Dsh, koroyd, and wavecell. Super excited to see more options that will be able to hopefully protect against rotational, low speed, and high impact crashes without being a one-and-done. I cant wait to try the 2vi at some point and would think it will be able to pass broth us and eu standards. Also glad its lighter. Sweet Protection is an awesome company and I'm always getting complements on the Grimnir. I put the helmet on display in my house and always wear it when I'm skiing-it brings you confidence when you know you can trust your equipment. @ns if you need someone to review the 2vi grimnir I'll make sure I'll do a much better review than this(could send it back too)
