Skiing is a sport that I love, it's something that I cherish every time i ride. I am one of the statistically lucky few who gets to do it every winter. I don't take it for granted. Each day that i'm on the hill I am thankful, because tomorrow, there is a chance I won't be anywhere at all. There are of course con's to skiing.
There are the times where it hasn't snowed for weeks and the whole mountain is bulletproof. When you get soaking wet because your jacket isn't as waterproof as you thought and the rain came out of nowhere. The rails are sticky, the park is full of tourists who have no idea what park etiquette is, and the lift lines are long. All of that is what you make of it. None of those things come even close to the worst thing about skiing. You can have the best day skiing ever without ever making a single powder turn or landing a new trick.
Skiing is the perfect escape and it lets all the problems in the world disappear away in the moment. Coming up to a rail, all thats going through my mind is the rail, nothing else. Skiing bulletproof groomers all i'm thinking about is the feeling of carving down it. I am one in the moment, I am here, I am present. The worst part about skiing is the drive home. Its that drive that lets you remember that no matter how deep the day was, or how sick that new trick you just landed was, your problems are all still there waiting for you. No matter what you find in the mountains or in the streets, it won't ever solve all of your problems. It's not the perfect escape because at some point in the day, you will have to come back to face your problems. Skiing gives you that taste of freedom, only for it to fade away.
Once the lifts stop spinning, your legs are worn out, you get int your car and drive back to your problems.
