This weekend is over. I’m back home in Buffalo, NY lying in bed and all I can do now is look back on the times spent with my homies and all the ridiculous things we did. All the skiing, the contest, the partying and chilling with people who have become my good friends, it’s all floating around at the front of my mind tonight. The stoke is still high even though the weekend is over.
Last year around this time, I couldn’t have imagined this past year. I was just this stranger coming to hang out with the dudes who run this site at Rails 2 Riches. A year later I’m back here once again at R2R hanging out in the NS condo talking like we're old friends. Over this past year we’ve skied and hung out together several times. Between two R2Rs, Loon, and iF3 we’ve made some damn good memories and I can’t believe how awesome this year has been. Those events are all long over, but the stoke is still so high.
In the past year I’ve learned more about skiing than I could have in some ridiculous 100+ day season. I’m not talking about skill. I’m talking about the culture and the community. One of the biggest things being that stoke doesn’t die when the weekend is over. I’m back to real life now but my hands are still shaking. My heart is still beating as if I just finished my first run of the season and I can’t help but feel stoked on the rest of this year.
Skiing doesn’t end at the end of the day and skiing doesn’t end because of "real life". Your stoke doesn’t have to end because you go home to a snowless city. It’s not about that; it’s not about that at all! These kinds of weekends are what can completely change your season, I’m telling you!
The NS gatherings, they're more than just skiing and hanging out. These weekends don’t end because you go back to real life; they really stick with you. My outlook on skiing is so different than what it was a year ago and I've made so many good friends along the way. Coming from a relatively small ski area, this stuff means the world to me. I get to travel and hang out with people I could have never imagined I’d meet and now they’re even some of my close friends. It’s not every day you get to mob around a mountain with these people, but when you do, boy is it something else. I’m just so happy that I’ve been able to ski with like-minded people who are as stoked as I am on skiing! When all is said and done, that's what's really important and defines what skiing means to me.
So now I’m back to the reality of a snowless winter thus far but I’ve never been more hyped. My advice to all you members is to come on out with us next time. If you can’t do that, make your own gatherings by getting together with your friends, traveling to places you’ve never been and skiing with anyone and everyone. Spread some fucking stoke, guys!! Get a condo and fucking rage for a weekend. It’ll be one hell of a time and you won’t regret it, I promise!
With that said, huge thanks going out to Doug, Travis, Sam, Jamie, Twig, Aaron and everyone else who's ever helped make these weekends as rad as they were!! You guys are of the raddest people I've ever met and I'm stoked to be able to call some of you my homies!! Also, shoutout to my good friend Chubz for being there from the very beginning. OG Travel bro right there!
