Out with the old and in with the..smaller and lighter.

Did you have the IS version of the f2.8, just wondering? I have been told, but not sure if this is true by several professionals that the 2.8 non-IS is the sharpest of the 70-200 series, but i am sure the f4IS will satisfy. Recently i was at a fashion show and even though i don't have the IS version, my 2.8 was gladly appreciated because of the dimly lit setting, but i suppose what matters most is what you will be often shooting.

I had the IS version. I have heard that the 2.8 non-IS is very slightly sharper in the center at the 70mm end but not at the 200mm end. Really small difference though. BUT the non-IS version doesn't have weather sealing which is VERY important to me. Yesterday for example i shot in a blizzard all day and my lens could not have been wetter if i'd just dropped it in a sink full of water. Weather sealed lenses rule!

I don't know if I could sell it. Then again there isn't that equivalent for nikon.

I wish Nikon had a weather sealed 70-200 F4 (or one in general actually) I don't have any need for 2.8 not even on a wider lens and as for portraits I think my 50mm 1.4 will do fine.

Congrats on the new purchase, I've never considered the 2.8 in that regards to weight.

I think you'll find that you'll be shooting a lot with that 85 when you pick it up. It's my favorite lens and was my cheapest until I picked up the 50 1.8.
