You know I really feel the same way about the park as you do. Last season my resort's park was fun, but throughout the day all the hits and landings would go to shit, so my buddies and I would get out the rake and regroom midday for us and everyone else. I wish there were more parkcrew guys out there like you, dedicated to feature perfection.
Doug I'm with you here. I'm new to the park crew at the local hill, and oh my god it's alot more work than I'd ever realized. The weather went to hell the last couple days, and I was the only ranger on duty last night.......
It was going from 50 degrees to 20 degrees over the course of a couple hours..... We'd actually closed the rails off yesterday because we could not physically get them to stand consistently straight. So last night my job was to keep bootpacking the rails in until the snow froze. For a good 4 hours that's all I did, was do laps and bootpack every rail on the way down. Hard, HARD work, but needless to say, all the rails finally set up straight, the groomers pushed some more snow in on them, and we didn't have to reset any of them today. Now it's like 3 degrees and those rails are frozen in solid. Yay!
Anyway, props to perfection in the park. It's the only way to be.
I know exactly where you are coming from. The state of my hill's park is deplorable, and it won't change. Bad hill management and a lack of commitment causes badly maintained features, and features that are horrid right from their conception. If you're going to do something, do it well. There's no excuse for a half-assed job.
I couldn't agree with you more. That was probably one of the best things I've ever read. You should go clone like 2000 of you and send a couple to each mountain, no matter how big or small.
the resorts do everything to give racers best conditions, so why the fuck can't they do it for freeskiing (or parks), especially cuz it's the future of skiing!!!!!!!!!!
