As a nation we were born on slogans. Thoughout history we've gathered behind banners, slogans and rally cries. These simple groupings of words were important to our growth as a nation but they can, and have also been a detriment. One of the most popular one today is "Make America Great Again". What exactly does that mean? Do we want to go back to slavery or just Jim Crow, or maybe just be able to beat up gay people? What are the goals of the MAGA movement? Unfortunately like many slogans it doesn't seem to offer much beyond a few feel good word to rally behind.

In all honesty America is a fairly new country. We've only had 250 years of figuring our shit out. We've done a pretty good job but like any other work in progress, there are many improvements to be made. As people in general, people have opposition to change. This isn't an American trait, but a human one. People don't like change, we resist it at all costs. Change can be painful. Other than the basic psychology there are many reasons it can be tough, including admitting we were wrong, or even that we can do better.

America is a pretty decent country, I think most of us can agree on that, but why stop there. What are we resisting, what are we afraid of. People are ready to close us off as if we're the best, the greatest, the freest. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world. Our prison system is so fucked that we have to use bullshit euphamisms like " correctional facility" as labels to make ourselves feel better.

Our health care system has several flaws. There may not be an perfect, or even easy sollution, but it's clear we can do better.

Saying things like MAGA or America 1 etc, People are turning themselves off to improvement. We're there, we've done it, we're at the summit, and that's simply not true. There is always room for improvement, especially in a country that prides itself on being the best.

If we're dabbling as hard as we are in imperialism, we should probably have a decent country here at home first. We're out spreading freedom, and the American way of life, but what about America? _____ people don't have access to health care, our prisons are over crowded.

So this brings me back to the orginal topic. Where in history was this point where America was so great? Were we better off with slaves? Was America better when women could vote? Was America better when workers lacked rights, worked long hours, and danced with hazardous conditions?

I honestly hope like other slogans it's more about the soundbyte, the rallying cry to gather people. People feeling cast aside wanting t feel apart of something.

The thing is, however disinfranchised you feel about our current political system, the answer is still progree not regression.

America is a fucking sweet country, but one of the best things has been our continual progress.

We fought for this country with a grand vision. A vision not just for now but for our future, not just for us but our children and grand children.

For hundreds of years people have been fighting to improve this country. Please don't let bullshit slogans and propoganda pollute your vision of this country to the point to where you push to regress us.

We've gained so much as a people and a country. We've learned from our mistakes, made changes and moved on. Please help that continue. Keep an open mind. Regardless of any political affiliation, don't strictly do as your TV says. All media is slanted, there is bias everywhere. I have it, you have it. All I ask is that you look at the world not as a Republican, A democrat, A Liberatian, but as a human. were all people. Fuck all the trivial issues used to divide us. People are people, we're all connected. Let's get together and ACTUALLY make America great.

Climbing off my soap box as you read this. I hate posting political stuff but the tensions and madness in the world are grinding my gears. These are your neighbors, your friends, your countrymen. Chill out and vote for positive progressive change to keep our country moving towards being as great as we all would like.
