Sneak peak moe.s new album
I got to take a sneak peak at moe.s new album. I have to say, although it's a little different, I loved it even from the first listen.
I sat down with Al to chat about the band, the album and music in general. Al mentioned to me that the songs are inspired by various hold music himself and the other members have listened to during this quarantine period.
One song that stuck out to me was Best Buy Blues. It has powerful lyrics like "Tortured in purgatory as I tell my story, I just wanted a fucking laptop" It starts out slow but build with powerfully generic uplifting vibes, like a shitty commercial, or some home improvement show, until the launch. There's a brief pause. When Rob wrote it he wanted to leave the pause before the solo to give the listener the feel that maybe it was over, maybe the wait was done. Then the solo launches in with a "wait there's more" with Chuck and Jim both in the background whistling aggressively in some heinously pseudo positive tone.
They've been messing around in practice trying to figure out the best way to bring these songs to a live audience. One thing that seems to be working is abruptly ending songs in the middle, then repeating them over, and over, until the desired effect has been reached.
Another stand out song is "I just wanna fix my house home depot!". About an order that got sent to the wrong address. It's 4 hours long, it's a slow burn, but it does have a happy ending.
Al mentioned that a lot of their purchasing experience have gone well but that isn't where the album takes you. "Most of our orders came on time without issues" but that isn't anything to right about. We wanted to write from the heart, from the soul, and sometimes the best spot to do that is from a place of pain. Honestly I can't think of a more painful place to be other than maybe sitting at a ________(insert specific hamband) show.
It's refreshing to hear the new work and see moe. taking inspiration from the things around them. It's like they've taken lemons and turned them into musical lemons that are still pretty much just lemons I guess. And that's what it's all about! Call now to preorder the new album, where you can listen to most of it by the time your call is answered which is generally 8-10 hours.
