There are many things that can make a great skier ascend to the upper echelon of ski royalty to join the likes of Shane McConkey, Candide Thovex, Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont, Tom Wallisch and others who more often than not let their skiing take them to these hallowed heights. For some, like Jon Brogan, it's an iconic edit or three which never loses its allure that takes them there. While other skiers take the more creative route and let their life outside of their skiing accomplishments allow them to make a permanent mark on the skiers that follow behind them, a la Jon Olsson. All that aside, there has always been one thing that ties your local park rat to a ski idol: their outerwear kits.
Outerwear is something we all need; whether in the form of full Gore-Tex backcountry suits to cotton tall tees that you made sure your mom never washed to maintain maximum steeze. Style has changed drastically from the early years of the Newschool movement to today. People still bitch and moan about how other people dress on the hill or in the streets, just like back in the day. The adage of "wear whatever you want" is applicable more than ever today with many resorting to thrift stores or seemingly hand-me-down kits for their latest style ventures. While Magnus wearing track pants & vests from Goodwill these days seems ridiculous, it wasn't long ago that everyone and their brother was in matching head to toe outerwear, which arguably hasn't aged well either.
Last but certainly not least, Shane McConkey's iconic kits included several classics but these were definitely the pinnacle of Shane steeze.
