Hi Newschoolers, my name is Jack and I know I am not very active on here but I really need your help to keep my little resorts parks open. I usually ski at a little ski mountain on the border of Idaho and Montana called Lookout Pass-https://skilookout.com/ It is a little ski resort with about 1200 ft of vertical, 400+ inches of snow a year, and around 600 ski-able acres. It also has been open for 79 years. I have skied here since I was four, and they have always had a terrain park, yet now mountain management is closing the park for good. I remember the days where the park literally had one feature showing because it was buried in snow, because about 6 years ago the park crew existed of one man, and the park was rarely maintained. This all changed when one man came, Chuck Schmidt, and his posse Boarders for Christ, made up out of all snowboarders, who always cater to skiers and gladly include them in whatever.
Chuck began refurbishing all the rails and making new ones, slowly improving the local hills park. Chuck and 3 others worked at least 40 hrs a week on the 3 parks Lookout has, maintaining them with out of date cats, and limited access to them, but still do a great job with what they have.
They have brought Lookout back from the dead, and over the past 5 years securing sponsors like Ashbury, Technine(have I mentioned the crew is all snowboarders, but whatever), Captia, and Redbull.
Of the 5 resorts around Spokane, they consistently have the best or second best terrain park, only falling to Schweitzer where Level 1's"less" park segment was filmed. The best part is they do it with limited funding, under $5000 a year to use on the park. They have no mounds built up for jumps, little support from the mountain, and 4 people. Hosting events like rail jams, big air, and slopestyle, Lookout Terrain Parks have solid fan base.
The mountain manager is a man who I respect very much, the mountain being a small mountain I know most of the the staff who work at lookout, has decided that the terrain parks will be closed for good so the mountain can have more ski-able acres(all the parks take up about 5 acres so about .9 % of the mountain). I can't believe this decision, for I have had many memories here, and have progressed so much, always being proud to call Lookout my home mountain and represent it where ever I go. Please voice your opinions in the comments below, K+++ if you do. Also if you could vote the would be great, because I would like to show the poll to Mtn. Management.
