People always tell kids to enjoy themselves. I don't think it's that kids dont enjoy themselves. They're always playing and having fun, but they lack the perspective to see that life is fleeting.
Life seems to be a giant situation where you realize the chance you had in the past, but sometimes feel hopeless for the future.
I wish I had hiked this, traveled there, skied this, learned that when I was younger. That said, where you are now will be looked at as that younger time at some point.
Maybe in some sense we do slowly come to a sense of indifference and hopelessness.
In 5-10 years, this moment right here right now, will be deep in your past. There will be the memories, but also the things you wish you had done.
Don't ever let the feeling that it's too far gone keep you from pursuing a change, doing something you love.
There;s that cliche saying you hear all the time " There's no better time than now". What a bunch of useless bullshit. At the same time it really holds true. There IS no better time than now. You can;t travel back in time. You can't make a change, or have a new adventure 10 years ago. Now is the best time you have.
Maybe you want to buy some AT gear, maybe you want to ski bum for a season, maybe there's a road trip or hike you've always wanted to do it now.
Don't let any feelings of "I should have done this ____ years ago" stop you, or that regret will only build as time goes on.
If there's a change you want to make, and adventure you want to take, do it now.
As we head into a new season remember that life is short. Make the most of it.
