You HAD to bring that into it, didn't you, The Dave. Yes, I know, you're right... but I'm still right about the skis' quality in general. Saying "If you've had no trouble with your pistols you aren't hardkore enough" remains ridiculously stupid.

The point I was making with my post was not to compare the quality of K2 skis to other brands but rather relay the message that they could make better than crappy skis if they were to better utilize their resources… namely staffers who spend too much time preaching sermons in the defense of their crappy brochure. It is more or less a management issue.

dadingdangdo, you must know a helluva lot more about Ryan's job than even he does. last time i checked, he designs the GRAPHICS for the skis, not the construction, so i don't see ANY connection between him standing up for Skeeze (or any of the other PR and graphic design people for that matter) and the quality of their skis. Ryan's doing his job- drawing sick graphics- and doing it very well. that's like saying that their receptionist should start working harder so their skis are better- they're all part of the company, but they don't directly influence the quality of the final product as much as the engineers, R&D people, and the people actually making the skis. and how do you know how Ryan is using his time at K2? maybe, just maybe, he's posting stuff after work, so there really is no management issue at all. as has been said to others in this thread, if you can do a better job, i'd love to see you try.

I think its funny how a lot of people are missing the fundamental point. Especially the K2 rep on here.

Theres nothign wrong with a brochure! Theres DEFINATELY nothing wrong with a nice looking brochure with articles by team riders. Heres the point (are you paying attention?)

There IS something wrong with lying. Yes, lying and misleading people is wrong. Surprise. And the whole second paragraph of this article is just that. It is a catalog. Please say so. Lying about it and "calling a puddle a lake" is just, simply, lying. And you deserve no respect for that , Mr Schmies.

That is all, good night.

Why is honesty such a difficult thing for companies to achive? It's pathetic.

Mauii, not to re-hatch all of this madness, but we don't even have display pictures or descriptions our products in there, soooo you would almost be hard pressed to call it a catalog then. Again, before you jump the gun, I take it you haven't even seen it. So, perhaps just relax, check it out IF you want then make a more educated decision/criticism. By all technical definitions, what was created was a 100 page magazine, so nobody is lying to you. As stated above, there is nothing sneaky about it. We make skis, we made a magazine/brochure/art book blah blah blah and it has our name on it. I don't think there is any conspriacy there.

everyone needs to go pick up the fucking mag and THEN come on here to discuss it. jesus christ, you all talk as though you think you could do a better job both writing a magazine and running a huge ski company. sure, some of you might be able to do fairly well at either, but we have no idea what went on during advertising meetings, PR discussions, and/or any other type of planning that went into the decision to pull all other advertising and focus all the efforts of the K2 graphic design program into making a magazine, so NO ONE on here with the exception of Ryan should act as though they are some type of authority on the topic. you can be as paranoid as you'd like and act like K2 is out to steal all your money, but that's simply irrational. if you disagree with the idea, DON'T PICK UP ONE OF THE FREE COPIES! wow, that's an amazing and innovative idea. others of us, though, will show both our interest and support and grab a copy or two. if you really do insist, though, on crying like a pack of spoiled 10 year old kids, it might do you well to pick up one of the mags, read it cover to cover, sleep on it, and then come back to post. everyone's going anti-K2, anti-Ryan Schmies here and very few of you have even looked at the mag.

Well this got taken pretty far.

I got my copy today, from Jibij(Thanks Josh) and I was loving it, flipped throught the pages and just got an old feeling of a FREEZE with Rants and Spray and all that fun stuff. Micha's editorial was really humorous and true. The overall magazine looks good, pokes fun at other ski mags with the fake advertisement, pushes the k2 brand, and overall is just a really fun read with great pictures.

I don't know how everyone is raggin on this idea, k2 IS COOl guys. They CAN and HAVE, and WILL CONTINUE to make good products you all love so much, while doing things for our sport while were down and out(aka no FREEZE). There shouldn't be this much hate. It's a great thing.

ps. Yes it does push the k2 brand and the k2 Factory Team, but the product they make is great, the have sicko riders, and they did sponsor this.

I've got a question for Mr. Bishop and the other admins of the site...and it's not in bad spirits nor is it about about K2 or Skeeze directly...Did you ever predict that NS threads could become this sophisticated or reveal so much about the innards of the industry? I mean, this is not product chit-chat, "I-think-K2-rocks-and-[some other company]-sucks" blabber...This is real discussion complete with debate over the definitions of "propaganda" and "multi-national corporations", the meaning of the 1st Amendment as it applies to the role of the printed press, and (a concept which I think applies most effectively in the continually evolving, highly interactive medium of the internet) synergy in marketing. The fact that K2's new mag/brochure/controversial-new-form-of-marketing-for-a-subculture-in-transition got a headline on Newschoolers and attracted one of the longest and most revealing threads I've seen in a while makes me realize that we're dealing with some really complicated issues. Is it the issues that are new or has Newschoolers just made these kind of debates possible?

schmies, you mean to tell me you guys don't have all those sweet meetings and stuff? oh... that sucks- to me, meetings have always meant free doughnuts. gimme your address and i'll send you some. actually, meetings suck ass, so if you're so fortunate as to be able to avoid those as much as possible, power to ya.
