The context in which they put McConkey's name didn't mean that he would be competing. They said 'alumni including Shane McConkey' meaning he was a guy who went through the tour in the past along with a bunch of other big names that also went through the tour. Further down they mentioned the McConkey Cup which is honoring him. It's pretty obvious that the person who wrote this knows that he passed away, and is certainly not on the invite list.

seth has competed...god you people are stupid, in other news this is completely lame that they don't have an open qualifier, leave it to red bull to be all exclusive and cut out one of the most entertaining parts of the tour stops

Frankly I'm a little disappointed with this. It's hardly a Big Mountain event, and in making it invite only they give choice athletes a leg up on the competition for the overall standings. No matter what line they try to feed people about not needing to attend every event to do well.
