I think its sick. Halfpipe seems to be the place for progression of tricks these days rather than progression of style. I think keeping slope out and pipe in works for my eyes. Gonna be such a high level of competition. Stoked to see it.

one major thing people need to keep in my mind is that snowboarding was an established 'cool sport' on the global map before HP was inducted in to the olympics. Therefore there was already an extremely well growing market which had already become partially mainstream which allowed for a transition in to the olympics to not negatively effect the core sport.

Skiing however, no body even knows what freeskiing is, our core sport is not well established enough to maintain another side of the sport if adopted by the Olympics. Yea there will still be film pros etc. but they will make no money and that side of the sport will most likely become extinct.

Snowboarding is a mainstream sport. It has extremely large markets and an enormous industry. Skiing is a niche sport with a micro industry.

If you are a medium size kid but have a lot of balls, and you fight a big bully, and you win, you will only become stronger. But if you are tiny and you try to fight the big bully, you will not win, and you will end up even smaller in the grand scheme of things.

Skiing shouldn't bite off more than it can chew

I think the creative side of the sport will be well and truly dead by the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Unless they turn olympic skiing in to the redbull cold rush, they can get fucked

^ i hope not, i think where freeskiing is right now is a good place for it to be. Pro's get their names out to the right people in x games and can keep their sponsors while doing it. it'll also be interesting to see what happens to the sponsors of skiers once they hit the olympics.. I also hope slope doesnt get in simply because when i think of generic skiing (jumps and rails (slopestyle)) id like to think that its based more around the style of the sport, and being apart of a small town canadian ski community, i think i can speak for the rest of us when i say thats what its about for us. I just hope that after the olympics we'll be able to see the pros who are well known and respected amongst the skier community because of their unique style the same, as well as the underground ski scene itself. I myself am not for the hype, but if your a high up pro like dumont or the other pipe skiers, good on you, and have fun, but dont forget your (our) roots

THIS IS A HUGE STEP BACK FOR SKIING. How in the world is this progression? Does everyone seem to forget why freeskiing started in the first place? Does anyone even know? It's because FIS sucked, and now we are crawling back to the absolute monarch of fucking skiing. This is bullshit, and its a shame that people think this lame disguise for commercializing and capitalizing on what skiing worked so hard to make their own is being passed off for progression. I can't believe people are considering this a step forward, when in reality this is just putting skiing [halfpipe skiing at least] back twelve years. FIS Sucks.
