fuckin sick, it was only a matter of time. im pretty stoked on this, but i cant even begin to imagine how stoked guys like kevin rolland and torin and them are. imagine one day all of a sudden you're thinking "wow, i can compete in the olympics now"
i'm extremely happy halfpipe got in, and i'm also extremely happy slopestyle did not get in. halfpipe will progress the sport as much as we would want, but i feel like if slopestyle was included, our whole "society" would start to get really pissed. just my two cents...
1) What about that "non-professional" rule for the Olympics? Somehow that didn't apply to Shaun White who makes more than any athlete on this industry probably.
and
2)What happens when they have to get drug tested? haha
I'd actually like to point out that so far we have an overwhelmingly positive comment thread going here. Seems as though so far, you guys support this decision?
Any anti-olympics people out there care to weigh in with a well thought out response?
Not every hill is equipped with a decent pipe, or one at all. Anyone can get rail skills on lock even with urban and practice their air sense on smaller jumps.
Its good for the atheletes who ll be competeing but I thought freeskiing and park skiing developed out of hate for traditional ski comps, freeskiers were the rebels of the skiing scene. I think the olympics are fucking lame and thats why they are adopting sports like pipe skiing and snowboarding. Fuck the olympics we already have X-games.
^ not really good criteria for what should or shouldn't be an olympic sport, since well I don't have any curling halls near me. However, I do agree that slopestyle should be included. And let me just say that reading this article gave me an immense sense of pride for my sport and my country. Looking forward to cheering the USA in OLYMPIC HALFPIPE FREESKIING ! Truly historic day.
