Introducing the Soho Basin Express!

At the heart of the expansion is the Soho Basin Express, a state-of-the-art 6-seater detachable Doppelmayr chairlift. This brand-new lift will open up 150 hectares of additional terrain, offering more space and more runs for skiers and riders of all skill levels.

New Terrain for Intermediate and Advanced Skiers

The expanded terrain is designed with intermediate and advanced skiers in mind, featuring playful areas, excellent snow conditions, and challenging steeps. With the new Soho Basin terrain, Cardrona will officially become the largest ski resort in New Zealand—something worth getting your ski legs ready for!

The Soho Basin Terrain: Playful and Fun

If you’re already familiar with Cardrona, the new Soho Basin terrain will remind you of the Captain’s area—fun and playful with a mix of groomed runs and off-piste opportunities. The south-westerly aspect of the basin ensures excellent snow accumulation, making it perfect for an extended skiing and snowboarding season.

Upgraded Facilities for a Better Guest Experience

In addition to new terrain, Cardrona is making upgrades across the resort to ensure that the influx of visitors in 2025 has a seamless experience. This includes:

A new snowmaking system to enhance snow coverage.

Expanded base building facilities to accommodate increased visitor numbers.

Improved parking and shuttle services for smoother access to the mountain.

A new building with a retail store, expanded dining options, seating, and scenic viewing areas for guests to relax and enjoy the views.

These improvements are in line with Cardrona’s commitment to offering exceptional guest experiences. Previous upgrades include a new Guest Services area, enhanced retail spaces, expanded dining options, and the innovative “chondola,” a combined gondola and chairlift installed a few years ago to improve mountain access.

Prime Spring Skiing Opportunities

The new terrain in Soho Basin will not only provide exceptional snow during the peak season but is also expected to offer some of the best spring skiing opportunities in New Zealand. Thanks to its favourable snow conditions, the snow tends to stick around well into the later part of the season, making for fantastic spring skiing.
