Crested Butte, located just outside of Gunnison in Western Colorado was forced to shut down operations Monday after receiving too much snow.
The resort had a whopping 47 inches of snowfall last week, and the late Sunday Storm brought 18 more inches by Monday afternoon. With a combination of the wet snow causing avalanche danger in steeper areas of the resort, combined with lift issues (then mechanics getting sleds stuck on their way to fix said issues)- it was safe to say the mountain needed a time-out from the madness.
Schools, shuttles from Crested Butte to Gunnison, and even government offices all closed as a result of the storm. With more snow expected this week, it may just be time to make that last minute trip to Colorado!
