BioDiesel kinda sucks actually. (cause it needs a lot of materials wich could be used to feed population blablalblablabla.... ) But whatever nice initiative guys!! Way to go!!
and to dude above me your are right in some cases for bio ethanol but the bio diesel that mark is using is just wastes oil from restraunts that would be thrown out anyways.
stop using your sleds if you wanna get all green and shit. on the other hand if you look at weather graphs for the last few million years you can tell there are always climate changes going on, im skeptical on the whole global warming thing. but yes using recycled products is cool either way because it does save the environment in so fashion.
I've made biodiesel with a system very similar to that, and I have to say hats off for doing in the basement, because waste grease usually smells horrible (like old vomit), and then you heat it up.
As to the question regarding energy input, there is really very little. In his case, he is using waste veg oil, so there is no energy needed to produce the oil. Further, the actual reaction uses just enough energy to heat the oil and pump it around some.
this is really cool, only problem is that bio diesel creates more pollution than regular gasoline. It's a matter of using less fuel or no fuel instead of changing what fuel is used. I regards to what mark is doing, this is a great idea and I have been waiting to see something start like this.
to leizga^^- wait, what? Quit skiing for the sake of sustainability? False. No if you want to do your part for this cause, earn your turns. Ditch the resorts and go AT into the backcountry. No sleds no lifts, no crowds, just you and the mountains.
