Today

we headed across to C.N.S for a shot decent down the north-west face

via loch vrotachan and back up to the carn aosda col. The actual plan

was to ski the cairnwell, south ridge again. But in the ended we really

couldn’t be bothered because the snow conditions on south, south west

and south east aspects are horrible now. It was only two day’s ago the

best snow was to be found on these aspects, especially on sron na

gaoithe, south west ridge.

From glenshee S.C we skinned up to

the carn aosda hut, then skinned up a shot steep north, north east

faceing slope on to the cairnwell ridge and onto the C.N.S ridge. It

looks like the icy layer what was on the south, south east face from

wednesday has been buried with new and wind deposited snow. We also we

noticed some old avalanche debris from thursday’s storm on the north

east face.

The snow conditions on the north west face were

variable today, with new and soft wind deposited snow lying on the old

icy layer with some exposed icy patches. The weather wasn’t to bad

either, in the morning blue bird with some high clouds about. By 1.00pm

it got a wee bit over cast then brightened up again later on.
