It is interesting to look back on my lift serviced ski season from where I am now.
My father told me, in a talk about priorities, that I would not remember this winter, as compared with the crazy stuff I am doing in school. This is not true, as I learned a grew in several ways. I picked up some backcountry gear towards the end, and am doing a bunch of skinning at present. I also learned some inverts at the end of my spring break on a BC booter that I built with my friends. This high point of learning some inverts allows me to have a section of memory where I might not have had any. I want to take these moments and realize that I remember the times when I progress most, because I feel the best.
This also looks to be the last year for a while in which I ski at Big Mountain. My experience there has been interesting, but informative. I realize now that Big Mountain is a hill stuck in the dilemma of wanting to do well, but not understanding what they do to the point that they can do well.
The whole idea of skiing as a seasonal sport seems pretty foreign to me at this point. I don't know where to start or where to end counting my seasonal days, because I don't really stop skiing during the year. I realize that this is a very cool thing, but it frustrates me when people complain about short seasons and then will not put in effort to change their feelings.
