"Speedbump" quite the fitting name for 4west's self titled movie. When I am taking my car for a peaceful Sunday drive and see a speed bump come into view, I groan at the fact I have to waste precious time completing this mindless task. This film embodies this feeling almost completely.
Listen I know what you're already thinking, "he's just here to bash 4west" or "he's just hating because he doesn't like them". Actually this isn't the case at all, I'm here to review this "movie", if you can even call it that. This movie is more of an insta-banger montage than an actual movie. When I first saw the trailer for Speedbump I was actually quite excited to see what 4west was going to present this year. The trailer was creative and caught my eye, the music choice, the clips they chose, it seemed like a perfect storm.
However after watching the movie I felt a little underwhelmed, all the hype from the trailer was gone, I was left expecting more from 4west. I've watched many ski movies from high budget to no budget at all, and to be honest it all comes down to editing/filming and creative expression of course, and to each their own.
With all that said, I really appreciate 4west's vision, even in the midst of a global pandemic they brought their team together and still put out a 30 minute film. They definitely put effort into this film, but did they really put a lot of effort in I beg to differ, never the less good on them for getting this project out. The opening scene to the film was also very interesting, a cool way to introduce the project I actually quite enjoyed it. Out of the 23 parts in Speedbump I'd have to say there were few parts I did find engaging, these parts in my eyes embodied the excitement people want when watching a project like this.
