there is a setting that allows for the 360 to play backwards compatible games, but if you have played halo then that setting should already be set to allow original xbox games. but i guess it is worth a check to make sure the option is still allowing backwards compatibility to happen

check to makes sure that you have up to date codecs. i use ffdshow and divX havent had any problems with any movies...just make sure you have the one that are most up to date, should do the trick... this did happen to me a while ago which i when i downloaded new versions of the codecs, fixed...

open up the case and check to see if there is any damage to the motherboard...almost the same thing happened to me once and i had burn marks on my motherboard from overheating...so check that first if you havent already done that if there seems to be nothing wrong then unplug all the connectors...
