^ Im from Ontario and the winter after high school i moved to Whistler. I spent 3 amazing winters there (school in summer). I skied close to 200 days each of those seasons and let me tell you YES, you do want to go there because it is amazing!!!
I only wish that in the east coast of Canada the " gap year" was a thing.
TO watch such an amazing place thats in OUR country CANADA be over run with foreign workers to the point that my Canada accent was the one being questioned, is a shame. ( i was teaching skiing there, and more than a couple times a season, i would run into people saying " your accent is different where are u from" )
Dont get me wrong i love aussis and kewies and all the other fruits that come here and party with us, but for gods sake if your close to, or fresh out of hight school, go skiing for a season, because no matter how much you earn you will never be physically able to go party and ski in whistler again!
Path 1 - Height school - University - Work- spouse/house/kids= One week a year to pretend
Path 2 - High school - first year/ semester of university- First time in your life to wake up and ski every day for a season in WHISTLER/ party like a king- Finish University - work - spouse/house/kids= a life time to relax and enjoy because you already had fun, and now you can do it once a year; with the pride of knowing what you like, when you are there, IN WHISTLER
You will forever know where is good, what is better and a sense of pride that the people in the cubicles or offices or what ever dont have.
By the time your 30, one year will mean nothing in the grand scheme. The people telling u not to are just pissed they didnt think of it first
