4FRNT, your athletes words are not matching what you are saying the comments.
The other problem is that ski cutting is an advanced technique that should only be applied by very avalanche "saavy" persons who have a great understanding of the snow pack. For starters: ski cutting in the presence of hard slabs, as suggested in this clip, is a BAD idea because they tend to break off above you and take you down.

Lastly, poor ski cutting technique! You want to ski straight into the safe zone. If you make a hard turn as MS did and it breaks at the turn initiation, his momentum is going to carry him INTO the avalanche. It is very hard to make a sharp turn in moving snow and carry your speed.
Further thought, there are just too many things wrong with this video. You need to take it down.
Suffice to say, it would be OK to suggest that you can reduce your vulnerability to shallow soft snow instability (ONLY) at the top of the line by making an entry into a line by pointing STRAIGHT at a safe zone (a REAL safe zone). But that is not a ski cut.

Introducing ski-cutting technique, even properly, outside of a Level I class (and in certain climates like Colorado, outside of a Level II class) is just stupid and dangerous. And calling a ski cut a "test" is misleading. If a ski cut doesn't produce a result in a slab/deep instability situation (and you don't want it to), then you have not proven anything!
TAKE DOWN THIS VIDEO
4FRNT has no buisness trying to teach kids how to ski cut, this is a very technical, very DANGEROUS method of avalanche control. Rather than getting some poor newschooler killed in the backcountry, 4FRNT should encourage people to take a REAL avalanche course and stick to their silly trick tips
/end rant, please take vid down
Are you guys serious with this video? this is reckless and irresponsible. I agree that it should be taken down. I had a lot more respect for both 4frnt and the riders in this video before it was posted.
Tomorrow they are going out with the Utah Avalanche Center to do the next Tech Talk - http://utahavalanchecenter.org/. They will definitely go into more detail on proper skills and technique.
