it cuts out resolution because the DVX does not have native 16:9 CCDs, so it just masks over the tops and bottoms of the shot.
It doesn't lower quality, but it does restrict footage to a weird aspec ratio. Might as well do it in post if its going to be done, or get an anamorphic lens.
