I think there's too much black in both of these. It makes your face hard to pull out, and sucks attention off of the focus of the picture. Illuminate! The other one would be sick if I could see a little more detail in your face. Rad.
I agree with VP, way too much emptyness and the way you have it positioned in the frame seems careless.
You should experiment with using your flash on a lower power, too. I've noticed in your shots that there's usually one area illuminated by the flash and the rest pitch black rather than using the flash to freeze the image and add fill.
Using your flash on a lower power lets it fire faster, too, so say shooting it on high power all the time it shoots at 1/800th of a sec, whereas if you shoot on 1/4 power or something of the like it's much faster, I don't know exactly, but I'd guess like 1/4000th. So basically, you're able to freeze action faster and have some more content in the photos, the only downside is that since you do add to the scene, the areas of the photo not hit by the flash (ie; half of a person) can be blurry, depending on your shutter speed.
thanks guys, this wasnt an action shot, this is the look i was going for, I wanted the inside of the car lit up and nothing else, i fired the flash through the window on the left. and I am getting an l358 next week so that my flash shots will be properly exposed.
