This photo symbolizes the end of the hot weather we've been getting here in Terrace. It's the first heavy rainfall which is greatly contributing to stopping some of the forest fires in the area. It's a bit late, but it's been rehydrating plants as well as people all day and I'm glad it's finally rained.
And asac, I actually could've just shot this in JPG because I didn't modify it at all, just resized and saved for web.
LJ5, the things you do with the manual settings are what the camera is doing when you hit the shutter, all you basically need to know is what the aperture does and then understand that with digital it's always good to shoot -1/3 exp comp to avoid blowing out any hightlights if you meter off something a bit brigter than the midtones.
People need to realize that it's not what settings you use on the camera or what kind of camera you have for that matter, it's finding a subject that shows what you're looking for, and reproducing that subject onto a form of media, whether on a digital point & shoot camera or a LF system. Once you understand what you want in photography, and the essentials of what makes an interesting photo, you can use any camera.
