I think people tend to over-rate slope angles. True 50 is really steep. Any number you've heard at a resort is suspect, they love to overstate everything. I just kind of gauge it by how far I drop every time I make a jump turn, but I've skied with people that use slope inclinometers in the past to get a feel for what 50, 55 feels like. It felt about the same as some other 50 degrees I've skied, and not as steep as a 55 that I've skied.

i still have yet to get the opportunity to ski anything that steep, so i am incredibly jealous.
