First of all, big props to Nery for doing the photoshop work in this, he put in some time to make this thing happen and now I got a sweet pic to posterize in my room
Now about the media comp. I’m kind of upset at this whole thing for a few reasons. My pic was the only skiing picture at the competition and it seemed to get pretty positive feedback from viewers. Quite a few people gave me compliments for the submission and considering the amount of people entered into the amateur category I figured at least a top 3 finish would occur. Turns out my shot didn’t even place in any category and the 1st place prize was awarded to the same guy that won last year. Way to give others a chance!
If I’m not mistaken, all the judges are employed by snowboarding mags. I’m not sure if this had anything to do with the outcome, but this is no way to give freeskiing submissions some sort of boost. Granted maybe I’m wrong and my pic sucked compared to the rest, but in my opinion I though I should of done better. Maybe for next year the event should be renamed to the 'Blue Mountain Snowboarding Media Showcase'. :/
Since i'm not as reserved as sybek and I did put some time into the photoshop work...
Awarding the prize to the same winner as last year smells fishy to me. Not only that, unbiasedly speaking his submission shouldn't have even made top 3 let alone won. If you ask me for my professional design opinion and yes I do this crap for a living I'd tell you the same thing(7 years working experience for large corporations). The winner sucked ass. Unless you're color blind, with a 1/20 vision would you think the first place winner deserved it.
Maybe you should check out the winners submission from last year on the back page of the blue brochure. I guess a green filter over the pic must count for a shitload of creativity by the judges standards
