Just some Costa Rica scenery and whatnot shots from around the country

Really bad shot of a tiny pink flower I saw along the Quetzal hike... Had to take it in a hurry because the battery died in the camera.

These orange flowers (forgot the name) that the hummingbirds LOVE along the Quetzal hike.

Mid-morning shot of the mountains around the Quetzal Villa

Leaf-cutter ants hard at work at a reserve near Punte Cocles. There were some MASSIVE trails they had, up to a foot wide and many kilometers long.

Pretty much the only Costa Rican sunset we saw because most of our days were spent hiking deep in the primary rainforest. This was taken while on a horseback ride in the pouring rain.

Beth and I on the beach by Punte Cocles... My mom took this one, and I'm writing my name in the sand with my foot.

Pictures my mom took of me on the massive cables at Sky Trek in/near Monte Verde. I got stuck on the fastest one because I was too light, and had to turn around and pull myself back. Monte Verde has the tallest, second tallest, fastest, and longest cables/zip line things in Costa Rica. SO fun!

Pictures of one of the geckos (or similar species) lizard I caught at Punte Cocles. It crawled all over me, and got lost in my hair. Good times.

Me holding a Catydid... There were tons of different species of them, and they were mad cool. They get really big and fly around at night. This was taken at our cabina at Punte Cocles, and my dad and I would walk under the walkways at night and shine the flashlights by the lights under the cover. We saw all kinds of bugs, huge beetles, lizards, poison dart frogs, spiders, and tarantulas.

Another shot taken by my mom of us at the Punte Cocles Playa

Sphinx moth that was flying around the windows outside the Quetzal main house that I caught at about 2am, hence the sleepy face.

Pictures in front of some of the massive mountain sequoia trees along the hike from the Quetzal place. The guy in between my mom and I in the last picture was our guide, Jorge, who was cool as hell. He was saying 'Rum' in the picture.

Sarah, Beth, and Dad on the horses on a long ride outside of Monte Verde. Beth and I raced ours a lot (mine was named Serena, which they said meant Mermaid), and it rained. We also got to see white-faced capucains (picture below), which got REALLY close because of feeding by tourists. One even ended up jumping on my head and then to another tree. They're a LOT lighter than they may look.

A very large tree fern downhill from me at the Quetzal Villa.

Hope these work... If not, sorry. Those are just some of the pictures taken with the digital camera (Canon Digital Elph PowerShot S330). My mom and sister also took twelve rolls of film between the two of them.

Dang, it shrunk them all. Oh well. Oh, by the way... To skogenchick and skibrderbitch... I don't want you making comments about my 'stance' or whatever on the damn horse. I'm an extreme ammature, and it was a guided tour and not a show, so keep your snotty comments away from my pictures, since it seems that's about all you two like to do is criticize other people and their horses. Oh, and I got pretty sunburned, but it was well worth it. :)

i reaaaly like the sky ones, the colors seem softer. nice shots though. and looks like a great trip. was it a family vacation or what?

Yep, family vacation... Well, let me rephrase: Our last desperate attempt to get along on a vaca since we usually go to North Carolina to visit relatives and end up getting in huge fights, and then I'm stuck in a boring house doing nothing because they won't let me leave. This trip, I chose the basic location, and pretty much planned the whole damn thing on my own. My favorite part was probably the whitewater rafting. My sister was a pill, and I had to stay behind with her a lot because she's very materialistic and hates the outdoors. We hiked a lot (she only went on one of which because we were spending the night in the middle of the jungle and she had to), and did tons of outdoor stuff. So fun! The people are SOOOOO nice, too. I highly recommend going (it's pretty damn inexpensive compared to other popular vacation spots), but watch your stuff... There's very little serious crime, but tons of petty theft.
