Argh! I hate how descriptions don't let you post in paragraphs, this is easier to read:
My main project this semester is to make a book that reflects an era in art history. We were randomly assigned our era by the teacher, and I ended up with the Renaissance. So, aside from designing each individual page, designing graphical elements that reflect the area (extravagant drop caps, etc.), we also have to bind the book in a way that it would have been done in our era.
So, this was done VERY roughly, there was a class full of people, and we were just going step by step. It's really cool how's it's done, though, it's all folded paper (called signatures) that are sewn together, glued to some stuff, and then you glue on endsheets which are glued onto your cover that's made of cloth and thick cardboard.
This one is super ghetto, but I'm fairly excited to see what my final project will be like, and I think I may make a small portfolio book made in this way during the summer as a project.
It can't be seen from this angle, but it actually looks like a real book (durr) if that wasn't obvious. Just a little rough around the edges, but picture a curious george book and that's what it looks and feels like, minus the sweet cover.
