Looking down usually causes you to lean forward subconsciously and gets you off axis. That usually leads to a backseat landing. I still look down sometimes on a sketchy feature, but you eventually get sense of what a proper set feels like and you don't need to look down any more. You will grow out of it over time I am sure.
