They don't sharpen. You wax them now and then, but never need an edge grind. They're not for hard snow. They're great in the pow. I rode down from the park top to bottom at Beaver Creek today, and I had to steer into whatever soft snow there was the whole way down. But in the park on the rails they really feel different. If you listen to when I get on the rails, it's a soft clunk, not a loud clank. They're softer under foot on the rails. And I rarely if ever slip out. What really is amazing is how new they still look--after hundreds of rail hits. Not for everybody, but if you're going straight to the park and staying there, they're great. If you're leaning into a groomer and trying to get on edge as much as possible like some downhill racer, these are not for you.
But I think the emphasis on carving is over-rated. I've always liked to skid around, butter, do surface 3s, etc. I think good skidding shows much more skill.
They really are a unique feeling. We had a demo day here last weekend and This ski was one that I tried. Such a wiiierd feeling! But i can see how they'd be fun. Amd congratulations on that record!
Awesome review. I saw these half price in the shop at the end of season and almost thought of grabbing them, but I've never demoed them and was worried they would be impossible to ride in firm conditions. Now I kind of wish I had gotten them. I hate slipping out on rails, or catching an edge. My knee is currently bruised cause I caught my inside edge on a tube the other day.
I really appreciate your videos, it's so great to see someone promoting the park for older folks, I'm over 30 so I feel too old for the park sometimes, but your videos really make me feel good about keeping at it. I hope you continue to make videos and post them here on NS!
